Project Floors

First in New Zealand to introduce Thrive® Matter

Core Values

Staying true to our core values of preserving the planet and inspiring innovation, Project Floors is proud to push the boundaries of sustainable achievement and be the FIRST to introduce this revolutionary nylon fibre that not only removes carbon from the atmosphere during its production but also incorporates reclaimed waste into the final product, to New Zealand.

About Us

Pioneering as ever, we’re the first in New Zealand to introduce Thrive® Matter, the world’s first carbon negative carpet fibre.

This remarkable innovation sets a new standard in environmentally conscious materials.

The world is crying out to reduce its carbon footprint and as the most sustainable carpet fibre yet, this is what everyone has been waiting for.

Thrive® Matter stands alone as the world’s most environmentally conscious solution-dyed, high-performance nylon fibre. With a carbon footprint beyond zero, it achieves a carbon impact that marks the first carbon negativity for a nylon fibre.

The demand for sustainable design and construction products is on the rise, and we are determined to meet this growing need.

Independently certified by GreenCircle™ and Carbonfund.org, Thrive® Matter is available in all our ProTile designs. We are delighted to share an environmentally friendly flooring solution you can be truly proud of!

How do we Thrive®?

This is the process of how Thrive® Matter is manufactured.

Raw fluff

Raw fluff is harvested from used carpet. Billions of pounds of carpet are sent to U.S. landfills each year. Thrive® helps to reduce the impact with the use of post-consumer recycled yarn.

Solid Contaminant

A mechanical separation process removes solid contaminants. When possible, these materials are recycled into other plastics for injection moulding in the auto industry. They can also be used to make chalk and nursery soils.

Liquid Contaminant

Liquid contaminants and “ground-in” solid contaminants are removed via a sustainable washing process. During this process, topical stain-resistant treatments from outside mills and fibre producers are also removed.

Clean Fluff

Clean fluff is converted to pellet form and used as post-consumer recycled content in the production of Thrive®. At this stage, 99.96% of contaminants have been filtered out and safely re-appropriated. What was one destined for landfills is made completely new again.

Reclaimed Pre-Consumer material

Pre-consumer waste or “industrial scrap” is also used in the production of Thrive®. Universal Fibers® recycles its own scrap as well as scrap from various outside industries. Universal Fibers® sends zero production fibre waste to landfills.

Reclaimed Pre-Consumer Pellet

Universal Fibers® combines pre and post-consumer material in Thrive® for a total of 90% recycled content.

Colour Concentrate

Thrive® is 100% solution-dyed. This means water use is minimised in the dying and coloration process for all 284 colours in Universal Color®. In addition, since all colours are developed in-house, lot-to-lot colour consistency is ensured. This process also supports mergeable capability maximising supply inventory and reducing ‘tail-out waste’.

Blended Colour Concentrate

Universal Color®, consisting of 284 trend-setting colours, is used by industry professionals and product designers, globally. This also includes 9 exciting “high metallic lusters”, another unique advantage of Thrive®.

Permanent Stain-Resistances

Universal Fibers® stain resist technology is inherent within the fiber and thus permanent. It cannot be worn off in foot traffic or cleaned off in maintenance. This outstanding innovation is environmentally safe, recyclable and supports extended product life since its performance will not diminish over time.

Virgin Nylon Chip

Virgin nylon “chip” is added to Thrive® to optimise colour consistency and runability in production.

Thrive

Thrive® solid colour singles. Offered in light weights beginning with 660dtex. Thrive® supports market demand for minimum yarn weight in carpet. This means lower cost, ease of care and maintenance, and low carbon footprint.

Thrive Finished Yarn

Universal Fibers® leads the industry by producing innovative finished yarns offering manufacturers and designers a myriad of versatile styling solutions. Thrive® is available in dozens of ready-to-tuft options providing an extensive selection of textures, colours, and weights.
